I was nominated for a second Sunshine Blogger Award by Tiffany; from the Love Always, Tiffany blog! The Sunshine Blogger Award is an award given to bloggers, by bloggers. It’s peer recognition for bloggers that inspire positivity, joy, and creativity within the blogging community. Basically, it’s an award given to those who spread sunshine.

Before I get started, I want to properly thank Tiffany for the nomination.  I am very honored to be one of Tiffany’s nominees for this award; she is an awesome person, with a totally cool blog. Tiffany personifies what it means to be a supportive member of the blogging community, and I’m very grateful to call her my friend. Everyone should absolutely follow Tiffany’s blog; Love Always, Tiffany; it’s filled with positivity, mental health, food, creative writing, and other awesome content. You can also find Tiffany on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Additionally, Tiffany allowed me to interview her for my Not Alone Series, which was totally awesome as well.

Rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award:

Create a new blog post. Do the following within that post; Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their blog. List the rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award. Answer the 11 questions that were provided by the blogger who nominated you. Nominate 11 bloggers. Provide your nominees with 11 new questions to answer. Display the Sunshine Blogger Award Logo.

My Answers to Tiffany’s Questions:

1. What superpower do you wish you had, and why?

Most of the superheroes I love have multiple powers, it isn’t just one standalone power that makes them who they are. So picking just one is very difficult. It would be so easy to say something cool like telepathy or time travel, but (after much consideration) I can’t pick those. Sure, telepathy would be amazing; but having power over another person’s free will is a really tough responsibility. I mean, even Professor Charles Xavier finds complications with it… Same with time travel; I’ve seen Barry Allen make many, many mistakes with time travel. Maybe I’m being over-analytical, but “with great power comes great responsibility”. I think Regeneration (Deadpool) would be really cool, as would Weather Control (Storm/Thor); both of these powers would allow me to help people, in truly miraculous ways.  However, is the ability to talk to animals a superpower? If so, I pick that… because animals are the absolute best.

2. Pizza: Deep Dish or Thin Crust?

Thin crust, all the way.

3. What’s the most memorable book you’ve ever read?

The Silver Linings Playbook. This book is memorable because it taught me a lot about myself. My whole life, I’d always known there was something strange about me, but I could never understand what… I found a lot of answers within that book. I actually wrote a blog post about it, back in 2014.

4. What’s your all-time favorite quote?

“Live Long and Prosper.” -Spock

5. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character, and, if so, who?

I’m a total geek… so I’d be lying, big time, if I said “no”. So, I’ll give you the first few “geeky crushes” that come to mind, in no particular order;

  • Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Star Trek (TV and Film)
  • Spock, Star Trek (Reboot Films)
  • Jem Carstairs, The Infernal Devices (Books)
  • Ben Wyatt, Parks and Recreation (TV)
  • Mitch Rapp, American Assassin (Book)
  • Winn Schott, Supergirl (TV)
  • The Falcon, The Avengers (Film)
  • Scott Lange, Ant-Man (Film)
  • Michael Bryce, The Hitman’s Bodyguard (Film)

6. What is your favorite holiday, and why?

Easter. As a Christian, I always feel closer to God during Easter-time. Plus, I love all the Christian related activities and joy that surrounds Easter. For example, I throw an Easter Brunch every year (for friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else who wants to come), it’s nice to see everyone gather, and talk about Jesus. It fills me with a lot of joy.

7. If you could live in any other time period, when would it be, and why?

Many people romanticize the past, but I don’t; perhaps I’m too logical to romanticize historical periods in time. When I think of the past I don’t see art, literature, and fun culture… I see segregation, wars, and laws that haven’t been passed yet. A few weeks ago I was watching an “old timey” film with my husband, and he said “I’d love to live back then; the live music would be awesome, wouldn’t it?” I replied, “I wouldn’t be allowed to vote, so I don’t care about the music”. So, to answer the question; as a Native American woman, I would like to stay where I am. The past has a lot of sad stories to tell.

8. What would you choose as your last meal?

I might need background information on this one. Why am I having a “last meal”? Like, am I really old… and I know I’m gonna die soon? Or is this the literal interpretation of “last meal”? Like, am I on death row for some odd reason? If so, what did I do? This is morbidly intriguing… yet I want to avoid it all together.

But, for the sake of the question, I would want a multi-course meal that involved; soup, pizza, steak, pasta, creme brûlée, cookies, and black coffee. Flavor profiles would be adapted based on location, and time of year (of course).

9. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?

Uncustomary Housewife. That was the name I gave my blog in 2013, and the title has grown more true as the years pass. I’m a housewife…. and I’m quite uncustomary.

10. Why did you decide to start a blog?

In 2013 I was a newlywed. I was really happy, but I was also confused and overwhelmed by my new life. I had a lot of things to say, and I wasn’t sure how to say them. In 2013 I vaguely knew what a blog was, and I didn’t know anyone personally that had a blog, but I thought the concept was cool… so I launched the Uncustomary Housewife. Now, years later, I still have a lot to say, and I’m still looking for the right way to say it all.  I actually wrote a blog about it a couple of years ago; “Why I Started Blogging: The Messy Truth Behind the Uncustomary Housewife”, you can read it for additional insight.

11. If you had the world’s attention for 60 seconds, what would you say?

I think about this at least once a year, normally while I’m watching the Tony Awards. I ask myself; “what would I say (in an acceptance speech) if I knew millions of people were watching”. I really liked Chris Pratt’s Generation Award Acceptance Speech at the MTV Awards. He talked about work ethic, kindness, and God’s love… I’d like to think that I would use my 60 seconds to talk about the same things.
